Installing SDRTrunk on a Raspberry Pi linux OS

Preliminary

A cross-platform java application for decoding, monitoring, recording and streaming trunked mobile and related radio protocols using Software Defined Radios (SDR).
It has decoders for AM, Fleetsync II, LJ1200, LTR-Standard, LTR-Net, MDC-1200, MPT-1327, NBFM, Passport, P-25 Phase 1/2, Tait 1200.
It works with HackRF, RTL-SDR, and SDRplay.

SDRTrunk, now with SDRplay support, is written in Java and runs slow on the Raspberry Pi 4. Performance may not be satisfactory. You should close all other programs. Disabling all tuners except for one and Disabling Spectrum & Waterfall will improve performance.

This document will guide you through installation of SDRTrunk on the platform built in the "Installing drivers for the SDRplay RSP1A, HackRF One and RTL-SDR" document for your OS and depends on that installation.

Prerequisites
SDRTrunk has integrated support for creating the JMBE library.
Install
- Go to https://github.com/DSheirer/sdrtrunk/releases
- Below the version that you wish to install, expand Assets.
- Download the appropriate archive for your 64-bit operating system. As of this writing, the archive of the latest 64-bit release is sdr-trunk-linux-aarch64-v0.6.0.zip
- Extract the archive to your home directory.

Run

# Change to the directory created by the archive, for example:

cd ~/sdr-trunk-linux-aarch64-v0.6.0
bin/sdr-trunk

If you set up a P25 system and press play, you will be presented with a dialogue to install the JMBE system.

Setup. You should be able to find your local system here: https://www.radioreference.com
- General
  - Click the Playlist Editor tab
  - Click the Playlists tab
  - Select an existing playlist or add a new one.
  - Click the Channels tab.
- For an APCO P25 trunked system, Phase 1 or 2
  - From the New pull-down menu, select P25 Phase 1
  - Select the new Channel.
  - In System, put the system name.
  - In Site, enter the local system name.
  - In Frequencies, enter all of the control channels.
  - Select the preferred tuner. If you want to only use one, you will have to disable the other tuners.
  - Under Modulation, select LSM.
  - Click the Aliases tab.
  - If necessary, click New Alias List.
  - To the right, click New.
  - In the Alias box, enter the name you want to be displayed for the talkgroup.
  - In the Add Identifier menu, select APCO-25 > Talkgroup
  - In APCO-25 Talkgroup, enter the talkgroup number.
  - Click Save.
  - Repeat, starting with click New for each alias.
  - Click the Channels tab.
  - Select the Channel that the talkgroups apply to.
  - In the Alias List pull-down menu, select the talkgroup that you created.
  - Click Save.
  - Subscribing to radioreference and importing the System and Aliases will save a lot of time.
- Disabling all tuners except for one will improve performance.
  Selecting Disable Spectrum & Waterfall from the View menu will greatly improve performance.
  If reception is choppy, it may help to set the tuner's gain to Automatic.
